Many new French books were delivered this summer to the small village of Keur Sadaro in Senegal as one of the contributions of the “2010 trip to Senegal” involving Lick Wilmerding High School and Drew School students, faculty and staff members, participating to the “Senegal Service Learning Project.” Many of the books were bought with a donation from Sylvia’s parents in memory of Sylvia. Students placed bookmarks with a message in French or English in memory of Sylvia. Other books were donated by the parents of students at the two schools as well as members of the French-speaking community of the SF Bay Area. To learn more about the Senegal Service Learning Project, a joint initiative created in 2007 by the two schools and Senegalese community leaders, see information posted on the Lick Wilmerding Center for Civic Engagement website.
